Troon is a small village located 1.5 miles south-east of Camborne with a rich mining heritage. It is known for its high levels of deprivation. And community, especially the elderly residents, faces challenges such as isolation, bereavement, and loneliness. Moreover, around 21% of Troon’s population lacks personal transportation.

In a bid to combat these pressing issues and alleviate social deprivation, the Troon Church Trust has taken a proactive step by seeking funding from the Community Capacity Fund to support their vision to renovate and expand the Community Hall. The grant provided by the Community Capacity Fund has enabled the Trust to engage an architect who will develop plans up to Riba stage 4. This includes tasks such as tender preparation, building regulations applications, contractor bidding, and tender reporting. These plans will serve as a foundation for seeking further funding for the construction phase of the project.

The plans for the renovated hall will feature an extension and improved accessibility, sustainable measures in the form of insulation, secondary glazing and renewable heating, upgraded AV equipment to support film clubs, live music and talks, an extended kitchen,  super-fast Wi-Fi and a computer suite. Additionally, the project aims to establish gardening clubs, a community orchard, and complementary clinics.

The renovation goes beyond physical changes to the building; The Trust aims to create a supportive and enriching environment for all of the community. By providing a hub for social activities, educational opportunities, and support services, the project aims to strengthen the bonds within the community and improve the overall well-being of its residents.
