Lanivet Parish Sport and Recreational Trust provides facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the community at large, in the interests of social welfare and improving individuals’ quality of life. They opened an extension to the community centre in September 2022, the “Lanivet Hub”, as a community café, especially designed to fit the Community Hub model, which is currently being formulated by the NHS and the Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum. The Hub offers access to a heated environment, refreshments /food/drink on site or to take away, advice on healthy eating, cooking and budgeting, access to group activities, allowing people to socialise and interact with others and to provide Information and Guidance (IAG) to the community.
This project incorporates 2 initiatives – 1) a new solar installation on the roof of the Community Centre to reduce the costs of running the Hub, keep the prices of the food and drinks to an affordable level and to reduce the carbon footprint of the building; and 2) to employ an Assistant Chef to take the strain off the current Hub Manager and enable them to engage more with the community, give information and guidance and provide some management time. The funding will enable the expansion of services provided by the Hub, to include cooking hot meals for the elderly and infirm in the area. The funding will also ensure the Hub can provide affordable food and drink and a warm environment yet be sustainable in these difficult financial times.
