Taking a heritage-led approach to sustainable regeneration, this project will rehabilitate two former estate workers cottages in a little-used corner of west Cornwall’s largest woodland to create new facilities for creative, community and wellness activities.
In delivering this project on a popular public Country Park, Cornwall Council are working with Creative Kernow to implement a Creative Residency based in one of the rehabilitated cottages, with SPF funding until March 2025. The other cottage will become a Community and Wellness centre, offering a flexible space for activities, as well as hosting a therapy room and rentable office desk space for organisations and businesses that want to use Tehidy as a base and contribute to the site’s community-led ethos.
As well as the creative residency and Community and Wellness Centre, the project offers a range of opportunities to support local organisations in the creative and wellness sector with funding to deliver an extensive activities programme from summer 2024 and a commission for the Poetry Privy immersive art project that will work with members of the community to reimagine a derelict Victorian outside toilet building.
The aim is that these initiatives bring a new audience to Tehidy which will develop into a thriving new regenerative business community at the site, which contributes to and helps promote the long-term sustainability of the beloved community asset.
