Sterts Theatre has been a much loved part of the arts community in South East Cornwall for decades. Starting as an open air theatre in the late ‘80s, it gradually morphed into the iconic tent structure which is so widely recognised across the South West. Sadly, having been replaced once, the second version suffered storm damage last year that put it beyond repair.
The Good Growth Programme is supporting the re-building of the community theatre to enable them to replace the fragile canvas structure once and for all with a more robust steel framed building which will allow them to extend their season and host a much wider range of arts, heritage and environmental events.
This rebuild is a vital part of securing the long term future of Sterts Arts and Environmental Centre as a vibrant and attractive community arts hub in the heart of rural South East Cornwall.
They have long been recognised for the quality of our community productions, both original and well known and for their work in engaging young people in the performing arts.
As part of the re-launch that this grant has enabled, they are committed to extending both the range of our activities and their reach by offering opportunities for the whole of our community, to the rest of Cornwall and Devon and to visitors to our beautiful region.
