In 2016, the St Tudy Playing Field Trust established a steering group consisting of representatives from various community organizations within the village. This dedicated and determined committee has been instrumental in bringing about positive changes in the village. Their efforts have resulted in the creation of a new children’s play area, the expansion of the playing field entrance, the installation of a temporary building for the Preschool and the successful application for planning permission of the initial design of a sports hub in June 2019.

The trust has hosted many fundraising and community consultation events to support their projects, highlighting their commitment to gathering feedback and input from the residents. This collaborative approach has played a pivotal role in shaping the vision of a new community-based building in the village, a goal they have been working towards since 2017.

The main purpose of the planned community building is to establish a permanent home for the Preschool, which has been struggling due to inadequate temporary accommodation and facilities for a significant period of time. By doing so, it will effectively cater to the increasing demand for preschool places, allowing parents to return to full-time work. Additionally, the building will boast a community space that will not only benefit the village school but also numerous sports and leisure groups – ultimately supporting the local community as a whole.

With help from the Community Capacity Fund, St Tudy Playing Field Trust has been able to cover the expenses associated with hiring an Architect and Quantity Surveyor to advance the project. The architects will be responsible for drawing up the building specifications, which will then be used by the Quantity Surveyor to provide cost estimates and lead the tendering process.

By taking these crucial, initial steps and securing the necessary expertise, St Tudy Playing Field Trust is positioning itself to apply for further funding to move forward and make the long-sought dream a reality.
