St Tudy Community Hub

St Tudy Community Hub

Lead Organisation: St Tudy Playing Field Trust

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: Community Levelling Up

SPF awarded: £120,648

Location: St Tudy

St Tudy Playing Field Trust maintains St Tudy Playing Field, providing facilities for recreation, education and leisure. It maintains a youth football pitch, a children’s play area, storage sheds and a mobile classroom which is used by St Tudy Preschool.

The building used by the pre-school is no longer fit for purpose and energy costs are high due to thin walls with poor insulation. They are also at full capacity with the child places they can offer and there is a waiting list due to their success and local closures of other providers. A new building with more space would mean they can provide additional places to parents who are currently unable to return to work due to insufficient local childcare availability.

The facilities that are currently available to rent in the community are unable to house all organisations needing space. This is particularly so for St Tudy Preschool and clubs or groups needing direct access to the Playing Fields.

With the support of Community Levelling Up funding, the Playing Field Trust will build a new net zero, accessible community hub located in the centre of the village, on the grounds of St Tudy Playing Field. A local landowner has donated half an acre of agricultural land to supplement Playing Field land to compensate for building space.

The Community Hub will be multifunctional and multigenerational and will include purpose built preschool classrooms including a secure outdoor area, a staffroom with kitchen facilities, toilets and changing facilities and a storage and plant room. They will also build a community room which can be used by groups for leisure, sporting, health and other activities, including a kitchenette/toilet.

The new building will enhance facilities in the village, providing long-term security to several organisations by having a permanent base.

Members of the Playing Field Trust committee will oversee the building project.
