St Newlyn East Village Hall serves as the central hub for the small village offering a wide range of activities and events to cater to the diverse needs of the community. From health screening events and craft fairs to art club, drama club, exercise classes, and bingo nights, there is something for everyone at this community centre ensuring it meets the diverse needs and interests of its users.
The current state of the hall is not ideal for the multitude of community needs. The spatial layout is inefficient, and the vastness of the central hall does not lend itself well to the intimate nature of certain community groups and activities. Additionally, the hall lacks proper insulation, with its corrugated metal roof and single block walls, resulting in the quick loss of any heat generated. The heating system relies on an outdated oil boiler, and the lighting is centralized
These shortcomings pose a threat to the hall’s environmental and financial sustainability.
To address these issues the village hall has sought funding through the Community Capacity Programme. The funds will be allocated towards professional architectural services, which will play a crucial role in the development and design of the St Newlyn East Village Hall Environmental Sustainability Project. The architect will provide expertise in areas such as design, planning, processes, surveys, and statutory consents. By investing in the architect’s services, the community aims to create a vibrant and financially sustainable hall that meets the current needs of its residents while fostering community pride and prosperity. This ambitious project, aptly named ‘Our Hall, Our Future,’ aims to create a welcoming and resilient space that transforms the Village Hall into a modern and sustainable community centre that will continue to serve as the heart of the village for generations to come.
