The Community Capacity Fund will be used to purchase and install essential equipment to upgrade the Foodbank’s Wi‑Fi network, ensuring it meets modern standards for speed, reliability and security.
Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank has been operating since 2008, with its current service model in place since October 2023. Its Dwell Café and Foodbank sessions rely heavily on consistent internet access, yet the current Wi‑Fi setup regularly causes problems. These issues disrupt the internet‑connected till system, affecting customer experience, and restrict the café’s ability to offer hot‑desking opportunities to local people who are not office‑based.
Upgrading the network and Wi‑Fi access points will significantly improve both reliability and security. The Dwell Café team processes sensitive client data, and enhanced security features provided by modern access points will help protect this information more effectively.
A stronger, more dependable network will also support the many external agencies that use the space during Foodbank and café sessions. These include Community Energy, Active Plus, Healthy Cornwall, CAP, and South West Water—organisations that require secure, stable internet connections to deliver their services effectively.
By modernising its digital infrastructure, the Foodbank will improve daily operations, expand community use of the café space, and ensure visiting agencies can continue offering vital support to local residents.
