Newquay Business Improvement District (Newquay BID) is a not-for-profit limited company led by people who are passionate about Newquay and equally passionate about its future. Their aim is to support local businesses through delivery of four key themes: Marketing, Events, Cleaner Greener Safer, and Business support, that will ultimately drive footfall and revenue to Newquay and its businesses.

Newquay BID have identified a need for a program of retail and non-retail events and markets using the framework created by newly funded infrastructure on the high street with additional complimentary activity on the Killacourt (nearby open green space), in Newquay. This funding will enable the procurement of equipment which includes gazebo’s, weights and tie down kits and trestle tables, providing a more sustainable model for delivery of outdoor markets and events.

This project will use the infrastructure for a regular Street Market in Newquay on a monthly basis, the first Saturday of the month from March/April to December with added seasonal specials. This core monthly market will be delivered in collaboration with market delivery partners Cornwall Shop Small and Newquay Farmers Market and will showcase 40 – 50 local makers, producers and small businesses. Additionally the gazebos will be available to support other outdoor markets and events in the area and will be available to hire to other local businesses and community groups at accessible rates where activity supports the projects aims.

This project will put the local communities at the heart of delivery, tackling deprivation by extending the opportunity to trade beyond the seasonal activity, by reigniting the potential of the high street all year round.

The market allows for partner investment in content, alongside the trading activity, including live music or family friendly activities to enhance the visitor experience and create a destination event for tourists and locals. Market revenue is spent on promotion of the market, further driving footfall to the town.
