Newquay Community Orchard is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim of providing a place that is caring, healing and inspiring for Newquay residents and visitors alike. Built by the community, for the community, Newquay Orchard provides a natural environment to explore, a community grow space; market garden; makerspace; performance spaces; indoor and outdoor classrooms; space for families and friends to gather and a community building with a café and co-workspace.

They are committed to creating an environment where individual differences and the contributions of everyone are recognised, celebrated, and valued. Inspired by nature, they provide a range of opportunities including vocational learning and adult education, connection through volunteering, skills development, community music, health and wellbeing sessions, and arts events.

The project will create additional spaces for community use, co-location of health and care services, improved accessibility and be better equipped to expand their learning support, including digital and cooking skills, and holistic wellbeing support.  By the end of the project they will have:

  • Developed accessible infrastructure to make services more inclusive including SEND and mental health support for schools and families.
  • Capital development of a new wellbeing hub facility – co-location space for health and care services providing access to mental and physical health and recovery/stay well support.
  • Development of a new community learning space – increased capacity for informal and accredited education, training and employability skills development.
  • Creation of accessible digital facilities – wifi, laptops and printing spaces – alongside digital device training in partnership with Cornwall Council’s Digital Inclusion Team and CRCC.  Facilitating access to the ICONIC project and new technologies available in their makerspace.
  • Enhanced social space for new peer support groups, volunteering and community action with access to information, advice and guidance, nutritious food and wellbeing activities.
