St Pinnock Band is extending its music education offer to young people in South East Cornwall by purchasing a range of percussion instruments, helping to broaden access beyond traditional brass banding.
With their grant from the Community Capacity Fund, the band will acquire drums, hand percussion, xylophone/glockenspiel, bells, and tambours. These instruments will form the foundation of a new Musical Youth Club, designed to reach young people across St Pinnock and neighbouring towns and villages.
Building on the success of its Junior Band, launched three years ago, the club aims to:
- Fill the gap in music education caused by reduced provision in schools.
- Offer inclusive music tuition led by volunteers from the Senior Band.
- Create a space for socialising, skill-building, and confidence development.
- Support progression for young people interested in pursuing music at a higher level.
Founded in 1866, St Pinnock Band has a long history of community involvement. This new initiative continues that legacy by making music accessible to all and inspiring the next generation of musicians in Cornwall.
