Development of Facilities for Community Use

Lead Organisation: Manaccan Parish Council

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: Community Capacity Fund

SPF awarded: £6,000

Location: Manaccan

Manaccan village, situated in the ancient Meneage area on the Lizard Peninsula, boasts a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age. Numerous ancient monuments and landmarks can be found within the vicinity, adding to the village’s cultural significance. Unfortunately, the village faces challenges in terms of community facilities. Both the pavilion in the playing field and the church hall, which are intended for community use, are inadequate and therefore underutilized.

The Village Hall is in a deteriorating condition and requires a substantial investment to bring it up to standard. Additionally, the presence of damp poses ongoing maintenance issues – many groups have relocated to neighbouring parishes due to the poor condition. Meanwhile, the pavilion, although serving as a community space, is insufficient in size to accommodate social events and requires refurbishment. As it stands, the pavilion falls short of meeting the demands of the community, leaving limited options for hosting gatherings and activities.

The Parish Council is eager to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the expenses involved in establishing a centralised location for education and community purposes. To support this endeavour, funds have been secured from the Community Capacity Programme, which will be used for a Topographical survey and concept plan. In addition, the scope of works will involve engaging architects, planning, and consultancy services to ensure that the development of the pavilion aligns with the needs of the local community.

The feasibility study’s findings will enable the Parish to seek additional funding for the expansion and enhancement of the pavilion. The refurbishment will incorporate eco-friendly heating systems, solar panels, insulation, an air source pump, and publicly accessible toilets that will remain open even when the building is closed. The project aims to cater to a wide range of activities, positioning the Pavilion as the go-to destination in Manaccan for multi-use events, meetings, community groups, sports coaching, and adult education classes, thereby fostering a vibrant and inclusive community atmosphere
