Little Acorns Preschool Renovation

Lead Organisation: Little Acorns Preschool

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: CLUP

SPF awarded: £178,002

Location: Camborne

Little Acorns Preschool is a charity which is located in the grounds of Penponds School and is widely used by members of the local communities of Penponds and Barripper and surrounding areas. The preschool is led by a qualified teacher and forest school leader. They also offer provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The building that the preschool is located in is over twenty years old and consequently, in spite of constant maintenance, is visibly deteriorating and damp, which isn’t attractive to potential or existing users of the preschool and reduces the child places offered by a third.

This project will renovate the building to ensure the preschool can offer their full quota of child places. It will create a sensory/breakout room for children with SEND. As a result of the additional child places, the preschool will create new job roles, extend volunteering opportunities and increase the hours of the staff currently employed.

Community Levelling Up Funding will fully refurbish the building including strengthening, insulating and cladding the exterior, together with replacing all doors and windows to new PVC units, fit a new accessible ramp and fire exit platform, and install handrails They will also create an all-weather covered deck area outside.

Internally, the project will install a disabled toilet facility, replace the kitchen and appliances, provide play-safe, wipe clean coverings to the play area together with a washable floor, in addition to the new breakout room.

In addition to extending childcare places available, the project will launch a new parent and toddler group.

These works will eradicate the damp from the building, upgrade the facilities available and help to secure the future of Little Acorns Preschool for the benefit of local children and families.
