Launceston Safer Greener Streets

Launceston Safer Greener Streets

Lead Organisation: Launceston Town Council

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: Community Capacity Fund

SPF awarded: £24,999

Location: Launceston

This project was put forward by Launceston Town Council on behalf of the Town Plan Group, a community group made up of representatives from key organisations in the town. The vision document, funded through the Town Vitality Fund, identified three priorities for town centre schemes.

The priority scheme being progressed in this Community Capacity Fund project is for improvements to the Castle Green entrance to the town. Architects have been commissioned to carry out a series of community engagement events to share the concept designs of the proposed improvements with local residents and businesses. They will also create RIBA stage 1 & 2 architectural designs in support of future planning applications.

The funding will help them to engage with Cornwall Council’s Planning Team to review the scheme ahead of submission of their planning application, as much of the public realm they wish to improve is owned by Cornwall Council.

The aims of the scheme are to create an attractive and welcoming entrance to the town, increase footfall, enhance the public realm, increase business opportunities, celebrate the cultural heritage of the town, improve and promote climate resilience and biodiversity and to create more jobs.
