The Community Capacity Fund will allow Falmouth Pilot Gig Club to purchase an additional set of junior oars, helping them make rowing more accessible for younger participants, older adults, and novice rowers who may find full‑sized oars too heavy.
The club is working to increase capacity in response to growing demand, particularly from young people, individuals managing mental health conditions, and older rowers seeking the wellbeing benefits of gig rowing. Many members take part socially rather than competitively, and having the right equipment is essential to ensuring everyone can participate safely and confidently.
Introducing junior oars will allow more flexibility during water‑based sessions, enabling the club to run inclusive training for a wider range of abilities. Alongside this, the club is partnering with sponsors and volunteer fundraisers to purchase an additional training boat, further expanding opportunities for new and existing rowers.
Falmouth Pilot Gig Club collaborates with a range of local partners to promote grassroots involvement as well as competitive participation in the sport.
