John Harvey House Project

Lead Organisation: Harvey’s Foundry Trust

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: Community Capacity Fund

SPF awarded (£): £20,000

Location: Hayle

Harvey’s Foundry Trust is a charitable organisation that has emerged from the local community in Hayle. The primary objective is to safeguard and promote the rich heritage of Hayle. The majority of the trustees are residents of Hayle themselves, and they rely on the support and dedication of local volunteers who generously contribute their time and energy to help achieve the organisation’s goals.

Over the years, the Trust has expanded its reach and is now actively involved in the restoration of other historic buildings in Hayle that have fallen into disrepair. By revitalising these structures, the Trust aims to reintegrate them into the community and ensure their continued use for the benefit of all.

One of the Trust’s notable projects is the renovation of the John Harvey House, a Grade 2* listed building with parts that date back to 1780 and early 19th-century additions. To develop the renovation plans for this project, the Trust will employ a design team consisting of an Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager, and Structural Engineer. Their collective expertise will be instrumental in developing comprehensive renovation plans for the building, ensuring that its historical integrity is preserved while making it functional for modern use.

The Community Capacity grant will be used to fund the design team’s work, which will take the project to RIBA Stage 3. This will involve developing accurate build costs, submitting applications for statutory consents, and fully establishing the project scope. Once this stage is complete, the Trust will be able to submit a full application for further funding and take this important project to the next level and ensure that John Harvey House is restored to its former glory.
