Harbour: a place of Shelter.
Cornwall’s heritage is rich with stories of migration and sanctuary. A prehistoric port to the Phonecians. Our patron saint; an Irish outcast. Sadly modern migrants find themselves, at times, given a less-than-warm welcome.
Led by RIFT’s co-founders’ personal history of forced migration we will work with international artists to build five collaborative residencies to connect with communities across Cornwall and celebrate the stories with a biennial festival. St. Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall. He arrived here from Ireland. Thrown out on a millstone. Cornwall’s heritage is rich with stories of migration and sanctuary. Artists unfamiliar with Cornwall visit for a month.Together with local organisations and venues, they create a celebratory piece responding to Cornwall’s landscape and identity. Every two years we bring the performances back together as a festival, now fully developed, to articulate the distinctiveness of our place.
Cornwall’s international festival of theatre: connected. outward-looking. aspirational. bold.
