Funding will be used to purchase an additional competitive gig, enabling Coverack Gig Club to attract and retain more members—especially junior rowers—and strengthen the long‑term future of gig rowing in the village.
Coverack is an isolated rural community with a deep and proud rowing heritage. The local club has invested significant time and effort into supporting young rowers, many of whom have stayed with the club into their 20s and 30s and enjoyed competitive success.
Building on this progress, the club now aims to support the next generation of rowers while also broadening participation across all age groups. Increasing the fleet with a new competitive gig will allow more opportunities for training, improve access for new members, and help the club meet growing demand.
The club also plans to work with men’s wellbeing groups to encourage more adult participation and to partner with local schools to inspire junior involvement. With additional capacity, Coverack Gig Club hopes to establish full competitive crews across every age category, including dedicated Men’s and Ladies B teams.
By investing in a new boat, the project strengthens the future of gig rowing in Coverack, supporting community wellbeing, developing local talent, and keeping this important Cornish tradition thriving for generations.
