Mevagissey Rowing Club is trialling a series of family-focused community ‘Activity Days’ designed to engage local residents, promote physical fitness, and introduce people of all ages to the sport of gig rowing. Funding will support three events that combine fun, learning, and community connection.
Each Activity Day will feature a mix of activities, including fitness challenges, singing, knot-tying demonstrations, and introductory rowing sessions for both adults and children. Refreshments will be provided, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for families to enjoy together.
The aim is to encourage participation in rowing while fostering a sense of wellbeing and belonging. Feedback from these events will help shape a regular, inclusive “Community Activity Day” in the future, tailored to the interests and needs of the local community.
By opening up the sport and creating opportunities for social interaction, Mevagissey Rowing Club hopes to inspire more people to get active, connect with others, and discover the unique heritage of gig rowing.
