Commonmoor Village Hall has secured funding to replace part of its roof with solar panels and install battery storage to efficiently manage energy needs. This upgrade will make the hall more sustainable and allow it to maintain a warm, comfortable environment for users throughout the year.
The hall is a vital hub for the rural community, hosting weekly and seasonal activities that welcomed over 2,000 people last year. However, winter attendance drops by around 30%, particularly among older residents, due to the building being cold and difficult to heat. By generating and storing renewable energy, the hall will be able to afford better heating in the colder months, creating a warm, dry space for social connection and wellbeing.
This project supports the committee’s commitment to sustainability while ensuring the hall continues to play a key role in community life and mental health support.
