Chacewater Parish Council identified the need for a new sports and arts building after the old football club pavilion became past its serviceable life. After several years of developing plans just for the football club, it was decided to expand the offering on the site.

Through public consultation it was discovered that a small sports hall for badminton, volleyball, circuit training, and indoor archery was required. Once designed it was realised that the sports hall element could be home to an indoor climbing wall, which was requested a lot through the public consultations. The rest of the building will have two changing rooms, an arts and crafts room, which has been aptly named the “Messy Room”.

Two further smaller rooms which can be used for music lessons, physiotherapy, counselling, and for small meetings will be on the first floor. There will be a small kitchen and toilets including referee changing rooms, along with a platform lift to enable easy travel between floors.

The new Recreation Centre will be home to new groups and organisations, as well as being able to offer local children holiday clubs and wraparound care for the primary school children. All of which will make this a real building for the community.

Chacewater Primary School will be able to use the facilities as part of their enhanced physical education programme. As part of this project, training for school staff and community volunteers will be provided to enable them to teach specialist sports such as indoor climbing and archery.
