Carwinion Playing Field Trust is developing a masterplan to unlock the full potential of Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith. The project will assess current use and explore future possibilities for this 6-acre site, aiming to transform it into a multi-use, inclusive green space.
Currently used by local sports clubs, the pre-school, and for parish events, the field faces limitations such as a non-compliant football pitch gradient, restricted parking, and limited engagement beyond organised sport. This project will address these challenges through:
- Appointment of consultants to design a comprehensive masterplan.
- Parish-wide consultation led by University of Exeter academics to ensure inclusive, high-quality community engagement.
- A community engagement day to gather ideas and aspirations from residents.
The masterplan will explore options such as walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, biodiversity zones, additional parking, and flexible event spaces. It will also prioritise native planting and habitat creation to support local wildlife and contribute to nature recovery goals.
Building on the success of the Junior Playing Field project, this initiative reflects the Parish Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing access to green spaces and creating a lasting recreational and social hub for Mawnan’s growing population.
