Calstock Village Hall

Calstock Village Hall

Redevelopment Feasibility Study

Lead Organisation: Calstock Village Hall

Investment Priority: Community and Place

Fund: Community Capacity Fund

SPF awarded: £8375.00

Location:  Calstock

Calstock village hall, situated on the banks of the River Tamar, is a thriving community hub for over three decades. Originally self-built and funded on a limited budget, the hall has now outgrown its original design and is in need of repair. To meet the expectations of a modern community space and reduce ongoing maintenance costs, the hall is seeking funding for a much-needed renovation.

With the support of the Community Capacity Programme Calstock Village Hall can begin the initial stages of the proposed project. To determine the feasibility of various redevelopment options, a comprehensive study will be conducted. This will involve an architect who will consult with user groups and the wider community to understand their current and future needs for the hall. Plans will be developed up to Riba Stage 4, taking into consideration the feedback received. A Quantity surveyor will be employed to cost the plans in preparation for tender. Once completed, the hall will be in a stronger position to seek further funding to move forward with their plans.

The feasibility study aims to identify potential areas for redevelopment to create a versatile and resilient hall.

By modifying internal spaces and adding usable space in the loft area this will improve the hall’s functionality and ensure that the village preschool needs are met to a high standard. The expansion of a second hall would accommodation additional classes and there is also a demand for a dedicated training/meeting room. Furthermore, the rowing club, which currently operates out of the garage space would greatly benefit from improved storage facilities and a new roof.

These upgrades will enhance the hall’s facilities, lower maintenance requirements for the future and reduce the operating costs, therefore increasing revenue, and creating a more sustainable future.
