C Toms & Son are a family-run boatyard located on the south coast of Cornwall, primarily serving the fishing sector. This project aims to develop a fully upgraded, modernised, and sustainable boatyard, leading to improved productivity and diversification into new markets within sustainable boatbuilding.
The project will update and modernise existing carpentry, welding, and engineering workshops. In order to meet a rising demand for sustainable-aluminium projects, a new dedicated aluminium welding workshop will be constructed.
To enhance the operational capacity, C Toms and Son will acquire new electric machinery to replace some of their older diesel-powered machines and invest in a mobile vessel trolley for transporting vessels in the yard. These initiatives will help them achieve their environmental goals by lowering fuel consumption and emissions.
The project will drive significant reductions in carbon emissions while also improving staff skills, welfare, and productivity. By investing in sustainable technologies and state-of-the-art facilities, C Toms and Son will grow the business and secure a safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible future.
These enhancements will ensure their long-term competitiveness and growth as a business, solidifying their position as an important part of the local marine sector supply chain.
