This project involves widening the doorway of Bolventor Reading Room to improve accessibility for all users. This work will be carried out by a builder as the first phase of a wider renovation plan for the historic building.
Currently, access to the Reading Room is via a narrow doorway and granite steps, making it impossible for wheelchair users, people with walking frames, or parents with pushchairs to enter. By removing these barriers, the project will make the space inclusive and open to everyone in the community.
Improved access will allow the Reading Room to host regular groups and activities and increase bookings for private events, helping the building reach its full potential as a community hub. In the longer term, the trustees plan further improvements, including replacing the old heating system, renovating the interior, repairing the roof, and enhancing the outdoor area.
This project marks an important step toward revitalising a historic village hall and ensuring it serves the needs of the whole community.
