Three Bays Wildlife Group is launching an exciting new birdwatching initiative centred on Mevagissey Harbour, the area’s only intertidal estuarine habitat. This unique location attracts a rich variety of birds and wildlife and is easily accessible, making the project inclusive for all members of the community.
Starting in Autumn 2025, the project will provide opportunities for people to connect with nature, learn about local species, and contribute to vital conservation efforts. To enhance the experience and ensure accurate recording, the group will purchase high-quality optics and bird guides. These resources will allow participants to observe and identify wildlife more effectively, deepening engagement and understanding.
The equipment will also support the group’s ongoing seawatch programme at Dodman Point, part of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Seaquest project, which monitors marine species such as dolphins, whales, seals, turtles, and basking sharks. By sharing data with organisations including the British Trust for Ornithology, Cornwall Birds Group, the RSPB, and the local environmental records centre, the project will contribute to wider efforts to protect biodiversity.
