Investment Priority: Community and Place

The UK has seen significant cost increases in food, energy and fuel prices. Funding is available to mitigate the impacts of the cost of living crisis via investment into renewable energy and energy efficiency measures as well as the creation of, or improvements to, green and blue spaces for communities. Applications can cover one or both of these areas.

Energy Efficiency

Applications are invited from projects that want to implement new renewable energy efficiency measures to reduce costs to households, and target properties of all tenures including social housing, private rental sector and households in fuel poverty. Funding is also available to support new campaigns, schemes and practical support and advice to help homes across CIoS move to more energy efficient ways to keep warm, reduce costs and energy consumption etc.

Projects that want to implement community energy networks will also be supported as they seek to bring together a defined group of residents or a community to deliver low carbon solutions to optimise locally produced renewable energy at lower costs

Local Green/Blue Spaces

Blue and Green spaces have also been identified as beneficial to communities during this financial hardship brought about by the economic conditions affecting the country. We are looking to fund projects which can create new and/or improve green and blue spaces for communities which have the least amount of access and where nature recovery is an important local priority. We are seeking projects which can have a significant positive impact on mental wellbeing, and which can make a tangible difference to an area and to the residents who use these spaces.

  • Green Spaces can include community orchards, gardens or initiatives that provide opportunities for learning new practical skills, knowledge sharing and training in growing produce. Projects which seek to make space for nature, turning unexciting spaces into sanctuaries for people and wildlife will be prioritised as they seek to offer local solutions to combat climate change.
  • Blue Spaces can include water within an urban area or public space such as ponds, lakes, canals or coastal water and offers opportunity for leisure and community activity/projects.
