Wildworks – We are Shining project

WILDWORKS is the UK’s leading landscape theatre company and £995,000 funding from the Good Growth’s Cultural Events and Talent Programme is helping it to run the year-long We are Shining project.

This project aims to celebrate Cornwall’s long traditions of community engagement and large-scale outdoor performance.

Sarah Waller, WILDWORKS Talent Development Producer, believes Good Growth funding is ‘really, really important’.

She says: “We’re working with over 30 artists based in Cornwall to work in partnership with communities to unlock their stories and tell them in unusual or exciting and interesting ways.”

Michael White, WILDWORKS Community Engagement and Programme Producer, says: “We’re working with many different groups – homeless groups, people within hospitality, and farming across the East of the county.

“It’s all about people and people’s stories, for communities to be able to reflect upon what it’s like living in Cornwall today.”

Giles King, WILDWORKS Artist/ Theatre Maker, says: “Without WILDWORKS, without Good Growth, without those getting involved, we just couldn’t do it without funding.”

Sarah Waller added that the funding is ‘a mechanism that’s allowed us to really reach beyond where possibly we felt we were able to take risk’.

Mydd Pharo, Artistic Director WILDWORKS, says: “The Good Growth funding offers us an opportunity we don’t often get in Cornwall, and it really does unlock massive doors for us actually, and I think the Good Growth funding has absolutely widened the lens on our capabilities to really look wider in Cornwall and work across multiple communities within our wider community of Cornwall.”
