Funding supports ‘much-needed facility’ with with impressive carbon savings
“The Good Growth Fund was absolutely essential for this project. There was no way we would have done it without it.” – Julian Chenoweth, Managing Director/ Owner Chenoweths Business Park
The Good Growth Programme is investing £600,000 into Chenoweths Business Park on the Roseland Peninsular.
Established in 2010, it is a commercial site and currently has a number of units rented out to a variety of sectors including hospitality, construction, waste, creative arts and charities.
The Good Growth investment will support a £1.2m project to create eight low carbon, energy efficient business units, helping to meet demand for commercial rental space in a rural area.
Julian Chenoweth, Managing Director/ Owner Chenoweths Business Park, estimated the building project would create an extra 50 jobs and said the Good Growth Funding has ‘provided a much-needed facility for this part of the county’.
He said: “The project’s a £1.2m build project on a carbon neutral building. We applied to Good Growth for the infrastructure fund, and we match funded that with our own cash.
“I wanted to specifically centre my activities around carbon saving activities because I just think it’s really important.
“If you create meaningful projects, with meaningful solutions that end up with net zero, or as close to, then everyone can buy into that and everyone else starts to think about that – from every household through to every business.
“I think it’s all of our responsibilities to do that.”
Julian believes he is ‘in a very unique position’ for the project as there is a builder’s merchant, waste transfer station, recycling facility, metal manufacturer and a concrete plant on site.
He added: “Not only that, but the raw products are also all of a recycled nature. When we demolished the building, we recycled. Ninety-five per cent of that building has gone back into reuse.
“We’ve also used recycled aggregates in all the blocks, in the ready mixed concrete, and in the foundation mixes.
“This carbon story is going to get bigger and bigger. If you start off on the right track, then it’s only going to pay you dividends later on down the line.
“This is a genuine bona fide project that would not have happened without The Good Growth Fund.”
This project is made possible thanks to a £600,000 investment from the Good Growth Programme funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
